CHOREOGRAPHY
FOCUS
As a choreographer, my focus is simple: storytelling. While working on a piece I constantly ask myself, "Am I helping to tell this story most effectively? Am I enhancing the director's work and bringing their vision to life? Am I giving the performers movement that will help them connect to their characters? Am I respectfully representing the book writer/playwright, lyricist, and composer?"
PROCESS
Collaboration is incredibly important to my process. I will never default to a choreographic choice–no matter how much I love it–if it is uncomfortable for a performer or if another member of the creative team feels it does not serve the story. The collaborative aspect of theatre is what I LOVE!
INSPIRATION
I draw inspiration from nature and seemingly mundane or normal things in everyday life. Flowers bending in the wind, deep breaths, raindrops streaming down a car window, confident strides. The music, the movement, the story, and the inspiration are all around for me to discover.
